Life Drawing 2

For my second life drawing session, I drew the naked male body form instead. Again, using the same medium of charcoal. Below are the quick brief sketches I had done.

And here are more sketches that took a little longer than the first. I still find limbs quite a challenge here, but I feel a bit better with my perspectives.

EGX 2015

During a weekend of September, I had attended one day of EGX (essentially the largest gaming expo in the Uk) in Birmingham, that was packed full of demos from soon to be released games such as Star Wars: Battlefront, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Retro video game consoles were at large as well, such as the Atari and the NES. Indie games were also on the scene and honestly my favourite part of the event. I managed to have a brief play though of The Chinese Room's 'Everybody's Gone to the Rapture'.

Visual Design - Perspective Drawings

For my first lesson in Visual Design, I practised with shading and form on Photoshop CC based off a robot design.

I was then given a perspective drawing assignment to draw an environment in 1 point perspective. I practised at first before going out to draw on a larger scale.

This one below was done using a fine liner pen and watercolour pencils.

3D Art Production - Barrel Tutorial

For my first lesson in 3D Art Production, I was introduced to the program Maya, mostly well known for animation. I got straight to work by following a tutorial on how to create, texture and render a single barrel. I had also used a program called Photoshop CC to develop a texture on the barrel, before importing it back into Maya. It took me roughly 3-4 trial and errors.

Here is the barrel made of a cylinder that I extruded multiple times. I then tested out some colouring with Hypershade and assigning coloured lamberts.

Afterwards, I assigned it with a more visually pleasing texture instead.

Above is the credited texture I used.

Life Drawing

Today I had my first life drawing session, and prior to this I had never had any real practise. I used a willow charcoal and had drawn out several different sketches from the poses the model have given. Some took 15 minutes, whilst others were 2 minutes and were continuous.

The above are all the brief 2 minute sketches.

Here are the more detailed sketches that took longer to draw. I found this experience rather fun and rewarding. I look forward to doing more in the future.

First Year - Robot Assignment

For my first mini assignment, I was given the task to be as creative as possible in designing my own robot. As shown here, I went through various designs. Some including the passive and small droids, to the far more violent and deadly types.

Above are more domestic like robots inspired to do the more mundane situations.

Here I went for more animal like and feral designs. Most were heavily influenced by Hideo Kojima's creations of robots.

Here I went for more comical designs, some more based on the inanimate objects the literally represent, to more over the top situations.

Ultimately, I went for the design based on an Ostrich to pages above, conveniently named 'Boxtrich'. I went on to further refine the robot changing the eye specifically. Not only was it influenced on Hideo Kojima's works, but also another upcoming game known as Horizon Zero Dawn, feature plenty of android creatures. I found this short assignment quite fun as I was allowed to be creative as I wanted.
